Create a Legacy That Reflects Your Values

When you include ALIVE! in your estate plans, you’re making a powerful statement about the kind of future you want for Alexandria: a future rooted in kindness, dignity, and community care.

Planned giving isn’t just about tomorrow — it’s about ensuring that no one has to face food insecurity, housing instability, or crisis alone, today or decades from now.

Ways to Make a Legacy Gift

Choose the giving vehicle that’s right for you.

Will
A will is a legal document that outlines asset distribution after your passing, ensuring your wishes are honored. It allows you to support causes you care about through gifts of cash, stocks, or appreciated assets. Including a charitable gift can leave a legacy and potentially reduce taxes, making a significant impact.

Trust
A trust provides control over asset management and distribution, avoids probate, and simplifies administration. Naming a charity as a beneficiary maximizes impact and potential tax benefits.

A simple bequest in your will or trust allows you to make a meaningful impact—no matter the size of your estate.

Sample Language:
“I give, devise and bequeath to ALIVE!, known by its legal name Alive, Inc., Tax ID# 54-0914017, % of the residue of my estate (or the sum of $__). ALIVE! may be contacted at 2723 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22302, or (703) 837‑9300.”

IRA Rollover
For those age 70½ or older, an IRA rollover allows tax-efficient gifts directly from your retirement account. It fulfills required minimum distributions, reduces taxable income, and supports causes like ALIVE!.

401k and Other Retirement Accounts
Designating a charity as a beneficiary of your retirement account allows you to give highly taxed assets in a tax-efficient way, creating meaningful impact.

A life insurance policy that is no longer needed can become a powerful legacy gift. Naming a charity as a beneficiary transforms your policy into a meaningful, lasting impact.
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) simplifies giving by allowing contributions now, providing tax benefits, and recommending grants over time. You may even be able to name a charity as a beneficiary of your DAF.

Charitable Gift Annuity
This option allows you to make a gift while securing a fixed lifetime income for yourself or a loved one. It’s ideal for those planning for financial security in retirement.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
These flexible trusts provide income for you or your loved ones while reserving the remaining assets to support a cause you care about.

ALIVE! has been a part of my life since 1975. I was drawn to its interfaith mission and the way the volunteers served our community. In nearly 50 years, I’ve seen ALIVE! deliver what is most needed to our neighbors. That’s why ALIVE! is in my will.

— Ken D. Naser, longtime volunteer, former Board President, First Executive Director (2005–2014), 1969 Society Member
